take bus 131,140,141 from Underground station "Münchner Freiheit" and exit at "Schenkendorfstr". Place yourself immediately at the bus station. At the next traffic lights the lane turning right goes to the Autobahn A9. Sometimes it takes time, but it allways takes time to leave munich.

- where it is: Crossroads "Pippinger Str" and "Verdistr". After the traffic lights "Verdistr" becomes the A8. There is a big parking lane for busses. The ideal place to stop.
- how to get there:
* i took SBahn to "Pasing". From there you have to follow the small river Würm. you would have to ask locals. Very nice to walk and you cross the "Blutenburg" which not many tourists see.
* Probably MUCH more easier is it to take the SBahn to "Obermenzing" and than walk down the "Verdistr" (ask locals for the direction to the A8. You can start stopping cars on your way to the autobahn.

I took the S-Bahn to Obermenzing and walked down the Verdistr.
There are also some gas stations at the Verdistr.

After getting off at S-bahn station Obermenzing you can save some time (and sweat) by taking the bus 162 towards the autobahn. some old lady told us that we can use the S-bahn ticket also for the bus... it rides along the verdistr. for some 2 km or so and you can get off at the first stop after the roundabout (I think it is called "blutenburg). then just cross the street and wait near the beginning of the A8 (there is another bus stop where you can wait). we got a direct lift to stuttgart in about 5 minutes!

I once hitchhiked from Munich to San Sebastian and took the A8 to Karlsruhe. I also started on the Verdistr. in Munich. It was pouring rain and i had no luck for two hours. But still a good place for getting a long way on the A8 towards the west.

I was standing near the KFC in Blutenburg (also S-Bahn Obermenzing) in a bloody freezing blizzard for an hour.. my first hiking experience. But as the snow stopped and the sun came out, it took 10 minutes to get a lift.

Zu zweit etwa 30min gewartet. Steht lieber in der Haltebucht beim KFC(Futtermittel) als an der Agip-Tanke einige Meter davor. Dort hat man uns schließlich nach 45-60min weggeschickt..

Take the S-Bahn to the station "Vaterstetten", walk down the Bahnhofstreet, turn left and out of the city until you reach a traffic-circle where you have to turn left and after 1,5 km you reach the highway bridge where a path leads you to the rest stop.

Vom HBF München mit der U2 Richtung Messestadt Ost, aussteigen am Karl-Preis-Platz.
Die Rosenheimer Straße (umschließt den Platz) ca. 5 Minuten Fußweg stadtauswärts liegt die Bushaltestelle "Ramersdorf". Die Haltestelle ist sehr lang, daher haben auch die rasenden Münchner eine Chance zum Halten ;-)
Falls es einmal länger dauert, ca. 500 Meter weiter stadtauswärts, direkt neben der Autobahnauffahrt gibt es einen Burger King.
PS: die Beschreibung hab ich aus dem Gedächtnis rekonstruiert, wenn es jemand besser weiß, soll er mich bitte korrigieren. Merci!

Gute Stelle, da sehr schnell von der Innenstadt erreichbar! Die Autos rasen zwar alle rel. schnell vorüber, aber durch das hohe Verkehrsaufkommen hat man trotzdem eine gute Chance auf einen Lift, zumal eigentlich alle auf die A8 fahren! Ich war in 10 min weg!

Perfekte Stelle! Hab mich ganz an den Anfang der Haltestelle gestellt, so sah man mein Schild schon von der Ampel aus, die direkt davor is... Schild 1 min hingehalten, schon war ich weg, erste Etappe nach Salzburg, dann dort an der Autobahnraststätte gleich den nächsten netten Menschen getroffen, der mich nach Wien gebracht hat.

I had no luck day after Christmas getting a lift but found there are more cars leaving off of Innsbruker Ring than Rosenheimer Str. Simply walk down from the bus stop mentioned here to the freeway entrances, cross the street to your left and move down a bit from there. Youll find 3 gas stations and TONS of cars. Gute (Bus-)Haltestelle, da viel Platz zum Anhalten. Von besagter U-Bahnhaltestelle "Karl-Preis-Platz" sind es noch gute 500m Fußweg in östlicher Richtung.

Ein bisschen illegal, aber bisher hat es immer super geklappt. Nehmt die U6 bis Nordfriedhof. Dann in Fahrrichtung vorne links aussteigen. Oben seht ihr bereits den Münchner Ring der vor einem großen Hochhaus auf die Autobahn führt.
Einfach durchs Gebüsch schlagen, länger als 20 Minuten wartet ihr nie.

die beschteibung gebüsch ist vielleicht etwas irreführend. ich bin da erstmal ewig gelaufen um ein gebüsch zu finden, aber gemeint ist wohl der grünstreifen neben der autobahnauffahrt keine 3min vom u-bahnausgang, wirklich gut zum anhalten. habe auch nur 5min gestanden.

Habe die Stelle heute eher durch zufalle gefunden und war mir nicht sicher ob da überhaupt jemand anhält. Hat auch ungefähr eine Stunde gedauert aber dann hat mich jemand bis nach Nürnberg mitgenommen. Ist schon ne tolle Stelle.

Großer Vorteil dieser Stelle ist: Man kann sich auch bei Regen hier gut und trocken positionieren.

Perfekter Ort um auf die A9 zu gelangen (Wir waren zu zweit, es war schon dunkel und hatten unser Gepäck noch nicht einmal abgestellt,da hielt schon der erste an). Man muss wirklich nur durch einen kleinen Grünstreifen, ganz einfach zu finden! dann wie oben schon beschrieben auf dem Rasthof Feucht super Gelegenheit um nach Berlin weiter zu kommen!!! Viel Erfolg

Schon zwei Mal relativ gut bis sehr gut weggekommen. Die meisten Auto fahren doch recht schnell, also große und deutliche Schilder malen. Unser Nürnberg Schild beim zweiten Mal war wohl schwer zu lesen.... einfach A9 auf ein Schild könnte auch helfen.

Take the U6 to "Studentenstadt" and place yourself at the next big junction in direction out of the city. Directly behind it, the street turns to one's right at the highway. At the junction is enough time to ask the drivers before the traffic light changes to green.

Alright, with the UndergroundTrain you drive to the station "WESTPARK".
there you go out and ask somebody for the highway to LINDAU or Memmingen. You have to walk maybe 1km (always straight) till you arrive at the beginning of the highway.
after a bridge, the cars in direction stuttgart and lindau(what we want) are pleased to drive out to the right. right before this 'drive-out' there is a small spot where cars can stop easyly.
This is your place. use a sign, for ex. "RICHTUNG SCHWEIZ" it worked well... (directly to switzerland)

Station "Westpark" does as it seems not exist. You need to walk from the U-/S-bahnhof Heimeranplatz, follow the B2r Garmischerstrasse for about one kilometer to the southwest. There is also a petrol station on this spot.

I know this spot i tried it several times, but i prefer to get on the motorway one earlier. At "HADERUNSTRAßE" you can get there from the Trainstation "PASING" with the Bus 56 in the direction "FÜRSTENRIED WEST". You have to walk back to the Bridge witch leads over the motorway and there is a small spot in the middle of the road next to the traffic light for the cars heading left on the A93. There you are sure they ll go to motorway and you got some time to get eye contact.
And dont forget to get a traffic map of München at Pasing.

This is my favorite spot to leave munich westwards. Its a gas station near the start of the A96 motor way.
- Use U6 "Westpark", then Bus 133 "Rotkreuzplatz"
- Or U5 "Heimaranplatz", then Bus 133 "Fürstenried West"
Leave the bus after about 3 stops, when you see a gas station. There are two of them, I prefer the one a bit more north.
